Nigerian wedding brouhaha

Hello people! I'm back from the break! I know y'all missed me, well, I missed you too.
Today, i'm opening a new segment on wedding brouhaha. It was borne from most of the weddings I have attended in recent times most especially, my brother's wedding.

What is it with wedding and clothes? We take so much time in preparing for a wedding but most of the preparations, go to the clothes we are either selling out, (ashoebi) or wearing on that day. I have since noticed that, the men do not really care. I mean, they just wear whatever it is that looks good on them. Please, if you are getting married and your husband has little or no fashion sense, darling, take over! You don't want him looking like an akwoshe while you are the slay Queen. ( shout out to my sister in law - she took over her hubby's Outfit).

Women! 'Pheeeew' we focus so much on the colors, shoes, purses, wrappers, head gear,and....makeup! Oh makeup! Did I forget photography? All these, actually make a colorful wedding anyway.

Speaking from a personal perspective, most of the well known photographers are bloody expensive! So, we contacted one of the high ranking photographers mason.... Can't remember his full name, dude said N800,000. What! For pictures? I died. Since memories are kept with the pictures we take, we ended up using some human being, we later found out was totally unreliable, but his fee was lesser than the first vendor (300-400k). We soon found out he was born with bad manners, poor customer service and had an extremely irritable personality. We finally made back up plans which cost us another 250k. I know you'll whisper penny wise, pound foolish! Almost the initial fee of 800k right? But then, who plans these things?

I mentioned how wedding colors are of concern. Now here we go:
Most of us, dream of having the perfect wedding (women precisely) we have our colors planned out. I know a friend who knew what her decor and wedding colour, or theme would look Like she wasn't into any thing meaningful at the time. Imagine meeting a man, who insists his favorite color is red and yellow! As against the usual peach and teal or yellow and silver combo. Some of you would say, I'll chose my color and stick with it. Aunty, not if you are getting married, its a planned thing remember? You guys are planning on becoming one you might as well, learn to obey.
The bout for color sovereignty becomes a big deal. Will it be madam's perfect peach and teal, or oga's tetracycline color, yellow and red? Nah, we'll just do more colors: red, teal, yellow ( color fighting)
Luckily, the last wedding I was privileged to attend, the groom who's also my brother had good color taste. Bro chose silver and yellow "wawwu"

Should I go further into how most vendors change plans last minute? Arrrrghhhhh... Your tailors may fail you, forget big names, if he or she is a tailor, and amongst the list of those who won't make heaven, disappointments are bound to happen. There are a few awesome bridal tailors (Tubo, Jbliving, April by kunbi, etc) if you must know, the latter does not receive fabrics she prefers sourcing for fabrics herself. These people's Pieces will wake a dead man!

Ps: If you actually want to slay in an asoebi as a wedding guest, try @fortune couture if you follow me on Instagram, you'll see some of her awesome pieces I slay!

Some other vendors, who turn out great, end up as family. I could list a few vendors I contacted and later turned out great @_m.a.s.h one awesome makeup artist who knows her onus wasn't just a vendor, but a sister. I'll be bias if I didn't mention Abdulazeez the hair slayer (@hairbysleame) the guy slayed my brides hair!. Oh my! The wedding dress guru @lacharisnigeria did a perfect Job on my bride....(pay me for more names). I forgot to mention the decorator! Gee works and decor did an enviable job in making the hall look splendid.... I took so many pictures my phone had to scream in Arabic!

We all go for weddings, and criticize a whole lot not knowing how much effort was put into it. These brides, groom, family members, friends, all put in good work to bring out the best. I know how many sleepless nights and days I had in ensuring the wedding we just had, went hitch free while I struggled to keep up with errands,(little errands though) I imagined what it'd be like for the bride!
My sister in law is such an amazing person, I can't begin to understand what it is she went through with most of these vendors. While she also had a lot of stress, her family was around and they bore most of the Nigerian errands. I really do not envy her younger sister! That girl worked her ass of mehn! But why am I even complaining? Isn't that why we are all one family?
Regardless of what it is we went through to make this happen, it was worth it!
So guys, next time you go for any wedding, criticize less unless you really have to.... As a critic, haven gone through this process of wedding planning, I know better.

This gist hasn't ended yet, I'll be doing more of constructive criticisms (*shines teeth*The aproko and writing spirit in me won't let it go!) we need to bare out some unwarranted expenditure, stress and unnecessary disappointments from vendors. For now, stay glued.
Thanks for your wishes and congratulatory messages.

  4. Weddings and the stress involved sha. I got married 2 years ago as an only girl, the bulk of the run around was done by my female cousins, aunties and my sweet mother of blessed memory. Stories like this remind me of my mum she took the entire asoebi job and it came out splendid. As for colors, my husband left everything to me so I didn't have a problem. RIP MUM

  9. The decor at this place is absolutely beautiful. In terms of decor, this is definitely a big step above a typical wedding venue. New York wedding venues are spacious, breathable, and absolutely glowing. They can bring in an open bar as well into this place.
