This day last year, I was laying in bed trying to update my journal when I realised it had only one page left. I scribbled my thoughts on the last page and planned to get myself a new diary when I was returning from work.
Then the Holy Spirit dropped a message in my heart. Why not write? Just like any human would, I replied asking who would read it?
Who read the other blogs, Why do you think people ask you to help them write lovely piece, why do friends stay glued when you tell them stories? These questions answered every negative thought I had that could dissuade me.
I went online, goggled how to start up a blog and wrote my first piece- Imade's chronicle.
By the end of that day, it had 65 read and the blog had been visited 320 times in one week!
This encouraged me to write some more.
I needed my own domain name. I was being hosted by goggle and the domain name belonged to goggle. I had to buy a domain name and probably get another host(something I'll have to pay for) or get someone overwrite the codes for my domain name to work with goggle. I also wanted to create a better template; something that'll be more catchy and then, make it mobile friendly as most visitors used their mobile phones. I went on to contact an IT guy who charged me N120,000 for the entire thing. Brethren, I didn't even have such amount to spare. With several commitments I had to handle, that amount was far fetched.
On one of my night shifts, I wrote down the plans I had for the blog, my proposed design, et al and I worked everyday towards achieving it. I prayed to God to give me a stable Job schedule so I could pull everything together( School, Writing? NYSC, ) and God did it. I was moved to a unit where I had to work 8-5pm excluding weekends. It was an herculean task combining my normal job with NYSC PPA but God strengthened me.
The blog you see was self designed. I wrote every CSS codes that accentuated the design and after buying a domain name, I over-wrote the codes on goggle blogspot so goggle could continue hosting my site for free.
Took me six months to get everything together and while I did this, I kept on writing.
I didn't get to write everyday because, i had to combine writing with my Job as an administrative Nurse plus i was also engaged in some volunteer services, I was running my Masters, I had NYSC to battle with and I was committed to soul winning and several kingdom activities.
A lot of people thought I was making money from the whole blog thing, I wasn't. Mine was carved out from passion; Rather than write on some hidden journal, I penned my thoughts through different stories, rather than gossip, I created stories from various experiences and each one turned out to be a master piece. Today the blog has over 20,000 visits! 20,000 awesome people from different parts of the world visited the blog and over 200 comments since the day I started writing. Jesus is Lord!
I have been on a road trip where I had someone stuck on the series "Married, Single and complicated" she kept insulting the characters and cursing me out for delaying posts. Right there inside the bus, she introduced someone else to the blog and tried introducing me also. Had to tell her I was the blog admin and from that day, we became friends.
I haven't made Millions off the blog like our blog Lord- Linda Ikeji, but I have made friends, gotten certain writing recommendations through the blog and I recently got a job to write on the UN volunteer platform. I now write for certain sites and get paid per page! Plus i get paid to advertise on the blog too (Halleluyah!)
It's minimal you may say, But everytime I write and do all the tedious mind blowing developmental things I do, I'm one step closer to my dream.
Be encouraged, never give up, reach out for your dream, harness that talent. You would be glad you did.
