NIGERIAN WEDDING BROUHAHA- Big wedding syndrome

My country people (in Teckno's voice) have you heard the latest song by Davido? song's title is 'IF" and if you haven't heard of it, please go and download it. My favorite part is where he said, "30 billion for the account eh! Versace and Gucci for your hand oh baby!" 😀😁

Now to the main gist, all these girls listening to this song think making money is easy. They look forward to a man with 30 billion in his account. One who'll make a proposal with a range rover vogue attached (*yimu*). If you are following some wedding vendors on Instagram and you aren't careful, heart attack may be your case o. Bellanaija too will not allow someone drink water and keep the cup peacefully.

Ladies get in here, while i'm an advocate for big, flashy weddings, i'll also ask, is he capable? is his pocket swollen enough? will you go hungry afterwards? if the answers to this questions are, "i don't think so", "maybe", "i guess so"  "probably"... then please have a rethink!

There is life after marriage and if the man you are getting married to cannot foot a big wedding, do not break the bank to get one fixed. We copy a lot of things from the internet. "oh, that lady got her dress from this famous designer i have to get mine too!" nne hunger is knocking on your door. Don't get me wrong, I love beautiful clothes some of you who follow my Instagram page know i do but i don't see myself breaking a bank to get them. Often times, i improvise... i find nice styles, get my tailor to make them, and i slay in them.

Here's the deal, if you are looking to get married, please plan a budget this will be your guide there are so many fanciful wedding ideas but 'negodu' those things, focus on your pocket.
There are a few affordable bridal vendors go for them. The success of your marriage does not depend on how flamboyant the wedding is it's a one day event- Do it and let go.

Wedding dresses are the in thing so go for a simple wedding dress. Most bridal shops do rentals if you have a dream dress, inquire about the renting cost or go for a look alike. You can always go to several bridal shops to keep your options open. If you can't afford to buy a dress, rent one. Renting is way cheaper.

I traveled to Lagos recently and while i scouted for fabrics, to make custom dresses, (i have a wild crush on fabrics) i stumbled on  different bridal shops and so many bridal items were on display. I almost did a self proposal so i could begin the wedding plans (ehen now, since Le boo has refused to do the needful *lol*) i went in to one of the shops and priced some items such as: bouquet, flowers etc and they seemed cheap and affordable. The good thing was, a lot of these sellers had the option of creating a better one if you didn't like the one on display. Why not get a friend to accompany you to the market months before the wedding. You can start buying your wedding items 4 months before the wedding. I also noticed they make bridal dresses in idumota i mean, awesome tailors oooo.... you can always negotiate, and choose from various options once you plan early.

Bridal shoes.....ohhh this is where the problem stems from, women love shoes and on the big day, we need to glam up our feet. I like this new trend "buy the Naira to grow the Naira. I don't really like advertising other people, but i will do this... i know someone who deals on female foot wear, lately i stay glued on her Instagram page checking out her fab shoes... these shoes are really gorgeous her handle is @bilqueroyale her shoes are pretty and affordable. Other wise, same idumota market does the trick. There are awesome shoes there too that are extremely affordable. Shoes and clutches to match.

Traditional wear...this is a conquest. A lot of persons have issues with this one. If you don't get it right, your pictures might come out "worgly" so, the need for a perfect traditional attire is necessary. These days, i'm on Instagram checking the handles of upcoming makeup artist , bead makers, asooeke maker and all ( who knows? God has probably answered the prayers of my BV's saying my wedding is next)... a lot of them are still upcoming, their prices are affordable go for them. The moment some of them build their brands, the prices sky rocket. You can always check the local markets too.

In summary, always have quite a number of vendors, ask questions and if you are not satisfied with the amount stated, walk away....unto the next.  Ahead ahead my darling.

Finally, based on logistics, no wedding is perfect, while we prepare towards a perfect wedding, a perfect marriage is of utmost importance.
Good luck to all intending brides. I have a bouquet giveaway for one lucky bride. First bride to comment her details gets it.

Happy married life in advance.

PS: All the brides getting married in Abuja, invite me ooo... I'll come slay and spray some Google Ad Sense money ( NGN1,000 na money too)

  5. The reason we have too many divorce cases is because, people plan for the wedding than the marriage. I have since learnt that what goes on in social media is a facade.

  9. I got married to an amazing man in 2014. Before marriage I knew he could comfortably foot a big wedding but I had plans. I wanted to start off my own business after marriage and I didn't want the burden of a big wedding and another business investment afterwards. I chose wisely. Did a small wedding then when hubby wanted a big one, I explained my reason for the small wedding he bought the idea and even praised me for it. Moral lesson: men are happy when you think with your brain and not your feet( shoes), (body (clothes) or Hands (accessories). Dear women, spend wisely
